CURIOUS creatives are in for a treat at Jasra Handicrafts Centre with a host of activities to suit diverse tastes.
A traditional chest-making workshop for children will take place on Saturday from 10am until noon. Participants will learn how to identify the types of wood used for manufacturing traditional chests, and how to mould accessories. It is open to those aged seven to 14.
A terrazzo tray workshop is being held on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm. Terrazzo is a composite material poured in place or precast for floor and wall treatments. During the workshop, participants will learn about terrazzo and its history as well as about cement materials and how to create colourful cement flakes. They will also learn the art of mixing cement to make a terrazzo tray.
On the same day, another workshop will be held for children from 4pm to 6pm. Pottery is a popular Bahraini industry that has been practised since ancient times, with archaeological research indicating its spread for thousands of years due to the availability of materials suitable for this industry locally. The Pottery Painting workshop is open to those aged between six and 14.
All workshops, being organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, will be held at Jasra Handicrafts Centre. Registration is required at culture.gov.bh.
