CREATIVES can come together at Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre to enhance their artistic abilities.
On March 4, the Young Artisan of Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre is organising a workshop titled ‘The Mother of a Million Palm Trees’. The event will kindle the imagination of children as they mould and use palm leaves, fronds and other parts of the plant to create tangible materials.
The workshop will be held between 4pm and 6pm and is open to those aged seven to 12.
A boat-making workshop will educate participants on how to identify the different types of wood used to manufacture model ships, how to mould the ship’s accessories as well as draw and carve a piece of wood and sand it.
It will go on from 10am to 1pm and is open to those aged 15 and above.
A basket-making workshop will teach participants the handicraft that is still popularly practised in several villages throughout the island, namely Karbabad, Jasra and Budaiya. It will be held from 10am to 12.30pm.
A pottery on the wheel workshop will cover such topics as the types of clay and tools used in shaping, methods of clay wedging and kneading, and how to shape and sculpt wheel potter clay.
The event will take place from 10am to 12.30pm.
Attendees of a Weaving Workshop will learn about the types of threads and how to use the machine. The workshop will be held from 10am to 1pm.
An Arabic Calligraphy Workshop will introduce participants to the history of Arabic calligraphy, the main types of fonts and its importance as an art form. They will also learn about the tools used and how to employ them.
Held between 10am and 12.30pm, the workshop is open to those aged 14 and above.
The workshops will take place on March 4, 11 and 18 and registration is required at culture.gov.bh.
