TALKS, workshops and tours will feature in the final week of ‘From the Post’, a weekly cultural event that aims to highlight the many layers of the historic capital city of Manama.
The event, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, has been held every Saturday for a period of six weeks, and included events that started from the Post Office Museum which once housed the Manama Post Office during the 1940s.
In its final week, the event will highlight Manama’s neighbourhoods or ‘Al Furjan’, reflecting the historical identity derived from the multiplicity of cultures, races and religions within this port city.
Children’s Workshop: Al Furjan
A children’s workshop in collaboration with Sard Child Cultural House will run from 10am to 12.30pm. The event, for those aged seven to 13, includes a guided tour to Manama’s markets to identify the concept of Al Furjan, followed by a collage workshop inspired by their observations using different kind of materials.
Tour: Neighbourhoods of Manama
Organised in collaboration with Manama Lab, the tour will explore the changing urban and infrastructural conditions of Manama through past and present testimonials.
The event will take place between 9am and 11am and is open to those aged 16 and above.
Photo Walk: Streets and City Life
A photo walk exploring the most important neighbourhoods of Manama (Al Fadhel, Ras Ruman, Al Hattab, Kanoo and Mukharqah) will be co-led by two experienced Bahraini photographers, Mustafa Al Bastaki and Hassan Al Nasheet. It will go on from 3.30pm to 6pm and is open to those aged 16 and above.
E-Scooter Tour in Manama
Organised in collaboration with Kashta Tours, the event begins at 4pm from Manama Post Office Museum, passing by Manamat Al Gosaibi, Al Fadhel Mosque and Bait Altawawish. Participants will also proceed to Manama Suq, where they will take a break at Aloo Basheer cafeteria, before returning to the museum.
All events cost BD5 per head, except the e-scooter tour, which costs BD10.
Talk: To Manama We Always Return
This discussion with the founder of Nazli’s Bookshelf Book Club will focus on the old neighbourhoods and markets of Manama which are influencing the next generation even after the demographic changes and renovations. The event begins at 5pm and is open to those aged 16 and above.
Talk: Old City Complexity
Manama has taken on an important role as a cultural and economic crossroads due to its diversity of commercial, social and cultural practices throughout history that have formed the features of its urban fabric.
The talk will be led by PhD researcher in innovation management, Rawya Al Mannai, who has more than 20 years of experience in academics, consulting and project management.
The event will go on from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Dar Al Riffa AlOuda Band
The band will perform a variety of traditional local music like Fjiri music, Fan Al Sout and Al-Artha at Bab Al Bahrain, from 7.30pm onwards.
