BAHRAIN have signed well-travelled Spanish basketball coach Josep ‘Pep’ Claros for the senior men’s national team.
This was announced last night by the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA).
Claros fills in a vacancy left by previous coach Salman Ramadan, whose contract with the national squad expired earlier this year.
Claros’s selection comes under the directives of BBA president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Fifty-year-old Claros will have a busy first few months in his post, as he will be guiding the nationals in a number of upcoming high-profile tournaments, including in the qualifying competition for the Fiba Asia Cup 2021.
Claros has had previous experience in Bahrain, having coached at the club level with Muharraq and Manama. He was also the national team coach of Mexico and El Salvador in the past, and has experience in the National Collegiate Athletic Association along with club teams in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
