UAE: Students at GEMS Wellington Academy in Dubai have been released and handed over to their parents after the campus went into lockdown when an intruder allegedly entered the premises early Wednesday morning.

The school suspended classes and allowed students to go home early for their safety, said Dubai Knowledge and Human Resources Authority.

The suspension was announced after a Latin woman, in her 30's, used a parent access card to enter the school and performed a suspicious activity on the premises before leaving the location.

The school announced that it had dealt successfully with the situation and ensure the safety of the students and staff.

The children were placed in the corners of their classroom after an alert was sent throughout the school.

Dubai police said that it has taken all required measures, adding that more details were be provided, urging the public to pay no heed to rumours.
