BRFC celebrates topping the West Asian Premiership league table

BAHRAIN Rugby Football Club (BRFC) celebrated tonight after topping the West Asian Premiership league table for the second year in a row.

The first team’s training session was set aside and the players were invited to toast their success by Adam Wallace, BRFC head coach, and his coaching staff, with a small gathering in the players’ lounge.

Wallace said: “The boys have been brilliant, worked tirelessly at training and when it really mattered on match days. It’s just a shame we couldn’t finish off all our fixtures.”

As reported on GDNonline, Bahrain’s home rugby games against Jebel Ali Dragons and Abu Dhabi Harlequins were cancelled due to the current coronavirus situation in the region.

The rugby authorities have marked both games as 0-0 draws, with Bahrain announced as league winners.

A meeting by Asia Rugby on March 17 will decide whether to stage a top two final clash between BRFC and runners-up Dubai Exiles 10 days later for the West Asia Premiership trophy which Bahrain would love to win for a third consecutive year.

Chairman Mike Cunningham said he was keeping his fingers crossed for good news as a ‘reward’ for support shown by the mighty Red Wall of fans who have followed BRFC throughout this season.
