Oman cases surge


Muscat: Oman yesterday reported its highest ever rise in daily coronavirus cases, with 1,014 new cases over 24 hours, bringing the total to 11,437. Of the new cases, 371 were Omani citizens and 643 non-Omanis, according to the Ministry of Health. The death toll in the sultanate is now 49. There have been 2,396 recoveries.

Two more people died in flash flooding caused by a tropical storm that lashed Oman’s southern city of Salalah, taking the total number of deaths to three in the last two days. Rainfall was recorded between 100-200mm in Salalah and other towns in the governorate of Dhofar and a surface wind speed of around 30kmph to 45kmph was recorded as the storm continued to rage yesterday.
