Bahrain Bourse (BHB) virtually rang the bell for gender equality for the third consecutive year yesterday to mark the celebration of International Women’s Day.
The event was held in collaboration with a number of stakeholders to demonstrate best practices in the implementation of gender equality across listed companies and other market participants.
BHB chief operating officer Narjes Jamal said: “We strongly believe in advancing gender equality across listed companies and other market participants. We have rolled out a series of initiatives to empower female professionals in the workplace.
“Within Bahrain’s capital market, we have noted female board representation of 5 per cent, slightly better than the global benchmark, whereas we stand at 4.65pc for female CEOs across listed companies. Data shows women make up 28pc investors in Bahrain Bourse, the value of shares held by them is BD208m and total volume of shares traded by females is 734m,” she added.
Bahrain Bourse joined 88 other global exchanges in a week of bell-ringing activities aimed at advancing gender equality.
